Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences: 25th Anniversary
Physical
Therapist education at Drexel University has a 25-year history that
began with the establishment of the Department of Physical Therapy
at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in 1979. Over the last
25 years, the landscape of Physical Therapist education has evolved
as the public more fully recognizes the impact of physical therapy
on rehabilitation and wellness. Drexel University has responded
to this shift by advancing its programs in Physical Therapy and
Rehabilitation. Currently, we offer 4 degrees including the Entry-level
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), the Post Professional DPT, the
Master of Health Science (MHS) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
with concentrations in Pediatrics, Orthopedics and Movement Science.
We also offer 2 Advanced Certificate Programs, one in Hand and Upper
Quarter Rehabilitation and one in Physical Therapy.
The
entry-level DPT program, the oldest program in our department, prepares
students to enter the rapidly growing field of Physical Therapy
as Doctors of Physical Therapy. They are educated to provide care
to individuals with various types of disabilities and illnesses
of all ages across all walks of life. Our profession stresses wellness
and healthy lifestyles in addition to assisting individuals with
illness and disability to achieve active and meaningful lives.
The
physical therapist education program has a reputation for academic
excellence and rigor, use of cutting-edge technology, current scientific
literature and outstanding clinical experiences. Our students are
among the best educated and highest performing students in the nation.
Over the 25 year history of our program, 100% of our graduates have
passed the required Board examination. Our program also has the
highest first time Board passing rate in our region, making our
graduates highly sought after by employers, nation-wide. On employer
satisfaction surveys, our graduates are given outstanding ratings
regarding their knowledge, preparedness, clinical competence and
professional behavior.
This
year, our department proudly celebrates 25 years of preparing individuals
in physical therapy and rehabilitation sciences to be health care
practitioners, academicians and researchers. Please visit our website for
