Transfer Student Frequently Asked Questions

How long does will it take to get my degree once I enroll at Drexel?
The BSN Co-Op program takes a minimum of three years for a transfer student to complete.  This is due to Drexel’s 10-week, quarter-term calendar, and the integration of the co-op work experience.  The duration of a transfer student’s curricular study plan will depend upon the number of credits transferred in from the previous institution.  An individualized plan of study which the student is expected to follow is developed by the academic advising staff.

What is the GPA requirement for transfer?
Drexel’s Office of Admissions requires a 3.00 cumulative GPA to be considered for transfer into the BSN Co-Op Program.

How many credits will transfer into the program?
Drexel University policy allows the program to transfer in 90.0 credits from another institution.  Students must complete half of the degree by taking Drexel University courses.

Is there a time limit on science courses for transfer credit?
Yes, all Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology courses must have been taken within the past five years to be considered for transfer.  Grades for sciences courses must be a “C” or better to transfer.

What courses are required in order to start the clinical portion of the program?
Students who qualify to begin the clinical nursing courses must have completed the following prerequisites with a grade of “C” or better: Anatomy & Physiology 101, Anatomy & Physiology 102, Anatomy & Physiology 103 (A&P 1 and A&P II taken at a semester-based institution will transfer in as all three Drexel courses); General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II (Intro to Organic Chemistry may be substituted for Chem II); and Microbiology.  It is also recommended that students complete the following courses prior to beginning the clinical nursing coures: English 101, English 102, Psychology 101, Intro to Computer Science, Intro to Sociology, and Developmental Psychology.

Does your program accept nursing courses from other programs for transfer credit?
Typically, the program does not accept nursing courses from other programs for transfer.
If you are transferring from another nursing program, you can request a review for nursing courses by providing copies of the syllabus to the program director for review.  It is the decision of the program director to allow transfer of a nursing course.

Do you have a part-time or evening program?
No.  At this time, Drexel University’s BSN Co-Op Program is a full-time, day program.

How will my nursing courses affect my work schedule?
Scheduled nursing courses should be a priority for students who may also have work obligations.  Due to the rigorous nature of the courses and the program’s mandatory attendance policy, students are expected to be in class and clinical when scheduled.  Students who also need to work, must strike a balance between academics and work.

What are the elective courses in the curriculum?
Elective courses are the courses that students must choose in order to complete the requirements of the curriculum.  Students can choose from practically any course offerings at Drexel and can use elective options to complete a minor in another discipline.  There are two free electives, one humanities elective, and one social science elective in the BSN Co-Op Curriculum.  Transfer students may be required to add elective courses in any given term in order to maintain full-time status. Academic advisors can assist with the choice of electives.

What are the program’s technology requirements?
It is recommended that students purchase a laptop with high-speed, wireless access that can be used in class or anywhere on the Drexel campus.  For students who have a home computer, high-speed internet access is recommended, especially during terms when students may be taking online courses.
