Incoming ACE Student Erin Harvey Receives Cherokee Uniforms Scholarship

August 1, 2012 — Erin M. Harvey, an incoming student in Drexel’s ACE program this coming fall quarter, was awarded the “A Nurse I Am” scholarship by Cherokee Uniforms. To apply for the scholarship, applicants were asked to watch a video and answer related questions in an essay. Erin was one of 10 finalists chosen from over 600 submissions. She said, “It’s nice to be awarded for writing an essay whose topic incorporated so many aspects of what nursing should be-quality, compassionate care for patients and their families.”

At a time when Erin was trying to determine what direction to take after graduating from college, her father suffered from a stroke. “After our experience in the ER, ICU, and on the rehab floors with my Dad and after experiencing wonderful nurses and some less than competent nurses, I knew that nursing would be an excellent next step for me.” Erin felt that she could provide better, more compassionate care than some of the nurses she had come in contact with during that experience. She is currently working at the Whatcom Hospice House and she said that her clinical experiences there have continued to affirm that nursing is the field in which she is meant to work.

Erin, her husband Jeremy, and their dog, Scout, will be relocating to Philadelphia from Bellingham, Washington so that she can attend Drexel’s ACE program. “I will be putting the scholarship towards the relocation and housing costs associated with moving across the country.”

Erin chose the ACE program because of its length, clinical options, and the high NCLEX pass rate.

We wish Erin congratulations and good luck in the coming year!
