Drexel Nursing Student to Participate in “Wheel of Fortune”

Philadelphia, PA, January 11, 2011 — Chris Vargas, Wheel of Fortune contestantDrexel University’s Chris Vargas, a junior in the University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions, is slated to appear in an upcoming airing of “Wheel of Fortune.” On January 26, fellow peers, friends and family will get to see if he won big.

The show was taped in December; and friends are still guessing his fate.

“Naturally I would want him to win big!” said friend and fellow Drexel student, Stephanie Jonson. “How many friends do you have that have been on a game show and won big?”

With minors in film and video, Vargas has learned to balance studies for both his interests; helping people and the camera. Described by friends as a hard-working and determined individual, finding out he was a contestant on a game show did not necessarily come as a shock.

Jonson said, “Chris would be the one that would end up on a game show. He’s pretty unique like that.”

In fact, Vargas has been active in seeking out reality television participation as well; he tried out for season 23 of Survivor and his persistence has earned him current consideration for participation in season 24. But friends think it’s more than persistence that lands Vargas these opportunities.

“Chris is an optimistic, free-spirited individual,” said Jonson. “He very much has a young heart that goes along with the passion and enthusiasm he has for a future career helping and working with children.”
