Dr. Jane Fedorczyk Elected Vice President of the American Society of Hand Therapy
Philadelphia, PA, June 25, 2012 —
On June 13, Dr. Jane Fedorczyk learned that she was elected Vice President of the American Society of Hand Therapists, and organization of which she has been a member since 1992. She has been on the board of directors for more than two years and is currently serving as Senior Board Member at Large.
“What I’m known for within this organization is being an educator,” said Dr. Fedorczyk, who is a clinical professor and the Director of Post-Professional Clinical Programs in the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences Department at the College. A certified hand therapist (CHT) since 1992, she is also on the board of directors at the Hand Rehabilitation Foundation, a Philadelphia-based group that raises funds to support mission trips, hand therapy fellowships and surgical residences.
Dr. Fedorczyk has been elected by the active members of the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT) and will serve a four-year term, moving from Vice President to President-Elect, President, and then Past-President. Once a leader in this executive committee rotation, Dr. Fedorczyk will focus on the organization’s strategic plan and mission, asking herself the question, “what is the best thing for the membership?” She is known among ASHT leaders as a strategic thinker who is “all about moving the profession forward.”
The timing felt right for the hand therapist to assume a more defined leadership role, as she had been a highly-esteemed contributor and respected authority within the hand therapy field for more than two decades. “Jane, it’s your time,” Evelyn Mackin told her. Mackin was a founding member of the Society and is one of Fedorczyk’s longtime mentors and influencers. Dr. Fedorczyk established the Evelyn J. Mackin Endowed Scholarship Fellowship in her mentor’s name to provide financial support to students in the Advanced Practice Certificate in Hand and Upper Quarter Rehabilitation at Drexel University.
The American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT) is a professional organization of licensed occupational and physical therapists specializing in the treatment and rehabilitation of the upper extremity. Learn more at asht.org.
