Training Med Techs in the Center for Interdisciplinary Clinical Simulation and Practice

Philadelphia, PA, January 23, 2012 — In the Center for Interdisciplinary Clinical Simulation and Practice the Medical Assistant Pipeline Program conducted training with a standardized patient encounter and a mannequin simulation on Monday January 23. The Medical Assistant Pipeline Program is a workforce development collaboration with University City District that started on January 9th, 2012.

The Program is a fourteen week, paid training experience at the Drexel University College of Medicine. Certified Medical Assistants have been recruited from West Philadelphia to be trained in clinical, interpersonal and administrative areas while also getting on-the-job training in Drexel Medicine practices. Once training is completed the MA’s will be hired permanently, depending on performance and available funds. Wage subsidies are being provided for six months by the Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation to all departments who utilize trainees.
