Pathway to Health Professions Program: Distinctive Features

Among the many features that distinguish Drexel University’s Pathway to Health Professions Program are the following:

Curriculum
The Pathway to Health Professions curriculum is unique in its incorporation of the natural sciences, health sciences, and clinical sciences. Students completing this curriculum are well-prepared to pursue careers in a wide variety of health professions. The experience that these students gain through their co-operative education greatly enhances their preparation for employment after graduation and for continuing their education through post-baccalaureate and graduate study.

Faculty
The Pathway to Health Professions Program has a dedicated faculty, with much experience in health professions education. Members of the faculty currently teach students in many of the undergraduate and graduate programs of the College of Nursing and Health Professions. Some members of the faculty also teach medical and graduate students in the Drexel University College of Medicine. With these experiences, the faculty members are well-equipped to advise students in their pursuit of health professions careers.

Facilities
The College of Nursing and Health Professions is located at Drexel University’s Center City Campus, adjacent to Tenet Healthcare’s Hahnemann University Hospital. The proximity of this major medical center provides a rich environment for students to study toward health professions careers. The Clinical Learning Resource Center provides students with state-of the-art educational resources (including the Sim-Man Simulated Patient System) to enable them to develop the skills that are needed in their chosen health professions careers. Through the 11th Street Corridor Partnership for Community Based Care, the College of Nursing and Health Professions maintains a comprehensive, community-based Health Center where students have unique opportunities to observe health care delivery.

Philadelphia
Philadelphia, the sixth largest metropolitan area in the United States, has one of the highest concentrations of academic health centers and pharmaceutical companies in the nation. Students at Drexel University also have the advantages of all the cultural, professional, and recreational opportunities that Philadelphia has to offer. Philadelphia is in close proximity to Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and New York.
