Roberta Waite joined Drexel University, College of School of Nursing and Health Professions, as a full-time faculty member in 2003. Dr. Waite comes to Drexel from Hahnemann University Hospital where she was the Director of Psychiatric Nursing. Dr. Waite received her BSN from Widener University, her MSN from the University of Pennsylvania, and her EdD from Widener University. She completed a two year Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Center for Health Disparities Research at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Waite is an assistant professor at the College of Nursing and Health Professions and is associate faculty in the Center for Health Equality, School of Public Health.

Dr. Waite’s main scholarly and research interests are with vulnerable populations concerning depression and ADHD in ethnic minority adults. Specifically, she is interested in examining determinants of depression from an ecological perspective and treatment considerations among women. She has received funding for two grants to explore depression among African American women. Additionally Dr. Waite is investigating explanatory models of ADHD and treatment acceptability among young adults from ethnic minority backgrounds. She has received funding from the American Nurses Foundation to explore this concept.

Dr. Waite is also involved in educational research working with underserved and ethnically diverse students, on two grants to support this endeavor:

* Research Models for Change: Bridges to the Baccalaureate (NIH funded grant)

*Diversifying Health Care Delivery in an Urban Healthcare Environment (HRSA funded grant)

At Drexel University, Dr. Waite has an opportunity to relate her nursing experience to students in the classroom, clinically, and on-line teaching a variety of courses in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs.

Dr. Waite is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau (Nu Eta Chapter); the International Society for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurses (ISPN); Eastern Nursing Research Society(ENRS); Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA); the National Black Nurses Association ( serves as Chair of the Education and Scholarship Committee for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Division & Corresponding Secretary); Chi Eta Phi (chair of Mentoring Committee); Serves as Chair of the Mental Health Task Force of the National Nursing Centers Consortium; and Serves as a Board Member for the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
