Betty Teixeira is an Assistant Clinical Professor and the Director of Graduate Clinical Education for the MSN Programs.

Betty earned a BSN from Boston College, a MS from the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, and her clinical research doctorate in 2010 from Drexel’s hybrid Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.  She is a certified Adult Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC and is also a Certified Diabetes Educator. Her nursing career encompasses diverse practice experiences: medical-surgical nursing, home care, hospice, nurse management and clinical faculty. She has practiced as a Nurse Practitioner and Diabetes Educator as well as preceptor since 1994 in two internal medicine practices and is currently a provider at Hightstown Medical Associates in East Windsor, New Jersey with admitting privileges at Princeton Medical Center.

Betty recently published her dissertation in Holistic Nursing Practice titled “The effect of mindfulness meditation on painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy in adults older than fifty years” and a second article in the Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners titled “Obesity stigma: A newly recognized barrier to comprehensive and effective type 2 diabetes management.”

Betty’s research interests include diabetes and obesity prevention/management, and complementary therapies in chronic illness. She enjoys the roles of both patient educator and preceptor for nurse practitioner students.
