Dr. Johnson is a licensed marriage and family therapist, a licensed clinical social worker, and an accredited family mediator, with post-graduate training in family therapy at Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic, and in divorce mediation at the Center for Dispute
Resolution of Rutgers University. He is a clinical member and approved supervisor of the American Assn. for Marriage & Family Therapy (AAMFT), and a member of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA), an organization of family therapy trainers and researchers; and the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), an organization of family studies scholars.
Dr. Johnson has both clinical and research interests in the following areas: community (and jail) functioning of people with serious mental illness, prisoner readjustment to society, mentally ill substance abusers, family stress and coping adaptation, couples in conflict, post-divorce family processes, adoptive families, cross-cultural studies, and developing assessment instruments for couple and family functioning.
