AliceMarie S. Poyss, CRNP, Ph.D. came to Drexel University, College of Nursing & Health Professions in 1992 as Associate Professor in the RN-BSN program. Educated in nursing, her background is varied and diverse, covering both medical and surgical specialties of adults. Particular clinical expertise is gastrointestinal surgery and nutrition support and nutrition screening of adults and elderly. In the past two years, she has received her postmaster`s certificate in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and ANCC certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Adult Nurse Practitioner.

Dr. Poyss has practiced medical-surgical nursing for the past 21 years, and has taught in both undergraduate and graduate programs in three Universities. Her Doctorate is from the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Education and is focused on Educational Leadership, Organization and Administration. Dr. Poyss`s research interests in the clinical areas include nursing intervention/outcome studies, and nursing treatment/outcome studies. She has participated with the Iowa Nursing Intervention Classification project for the past five years, and has authored two nursing interventional labels for the project. Other research interests include program evaluation, and effects of alternate teaching styles with student learning. Funded research includes Evaluation of an Alternative Care Delivery System in Critical Care Nursing.
