Dr. O’Neil is an assistant professor in the Programs in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences.  She is a child health and rehabilitation researcher with a focus on improving health behaviors, especially physical activity levels, in children who are overweight/obese and those with disabilities such as cerebral palsy.  Dr. O’Neil uses a socio-ecological approach in examining determinants of child health behaviors and outcomes of health promotion interventions to include the influence of environmental and personal factors and behaviors in health outcomes.  Dr. O’Neil teaches in three of the Programs: the professional DPT program; the post-professional DPT program and the PhD program.  Her areas of teaching expertise are in pediatric neurorehabilitation, fitness and health promotion; clinical measures and research design; and health services and health policy.  Dr. O’Neil has a secondary appointment in the School of Public Health and teaches in the Department of Health Management and Policy.  Dr. O’Neil advises PT and PH students in capstone research projects.  Dr. O’Neil is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Section on Pediatrics and is actively involved in the Research Committee for the Section.  She is an active member in the Section of Maternal and Child Health in the American Public Health Association.  She is active in state and local PT and public health committees with a research and service focus on improving health outcomes for children and their families.
