Betty Hartzell, Ph.D., ATR-BC, LPC is an Assistant Professor and the Assistant Director of Art Therapy in the Hahnemann Creative Arts in Therapy Program at Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professionals. She received her masters in Clinical Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University formerly Immaculate Heart College in 1977 and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 1998.

Prior to the present position at Drexel University, Dr. Hartzell was employed for over twenty years in positions of therapist, supervisor, and subsequently as administrator in a number of Delaware Valley Hospitals and agencies. She has presented on varied clinical subjects and specifically art therapy issues to agencies, hospitals, and school districts both regionally and nationally. Dr. Hartzell has taught as an adjunct faculty at the undergraduate and graduate levels at four Philadelphia Colleges and Universities. With a professional colleague she conducted an Art Therapy consulting business encompassing education, evaluations, training, supervision, and individual and group therapy. She has a private practice and also supervises art therapists preparing for registration
