Dr. Goodill is the director of the Hahnemann Creative Arts in Therapy Program at Drexel University and she also serves as the Vice President of the American Dance Therapy Association. She holds a Master’s of Creative Arts in Therapy with a specialization in dance/movement therapy from Hahnemann Medical College, and a Ph.D. in Medical Psychology with a concentration in Mind/Body Studies from The Union Institute and University. Sherry has been working as a dance/movement therapist and educator since 1980. Her 2005 book, An Introduction to Medical Dance/Movement Therapy has supported the application of dance/movement therapy for people living with medical conditions. Dr. Goodill serves on the editorial panels for the scholarly journals, the Journal of Creativity in Mental Health., and The Arts in Psychotherapy: An international journal. In addition to her academic and administrative work, she continues to dance, and to contribute dance-based services in the community and the region.
Her many professional and academic interests include topics in psychosocial assessment through movement, non-verbal communication research, the application of dance/movement therapy and the creative arts therapies to address the psychosocial needs of medical patients and their families, the mind/body dynamics and mind/body interventions in Complementary and Alternative Therapy contexts, the role of the arts in healthcare, and mixed methodology research.
