Heyward (Michael) Dreher, D.N.Sc., RN`s primary research areas are sleep, sleep disruption and immune function, and sleep and aging. He has presented international papers on both sleep and teaching pedagogy and was the first nurse to complete the jointly funded National Heart, Lung, & Blood Institute and National Institute of Nursing Research two-year postdoctoral research fellowship in sleep and respiratory neurobiology at the University of Pennsylvania.

He received tenure and promotion to Associate Professor at Drexel University in May 2004 and was appointed on August 1, 2004 to the new position of Director of Doctoral Nursing Programs at Drexel. He will be in charge of developing a practice-focused nursing doctoral program to hopefully be implemented Fall 2005. He is a Research Fellow in the Center for Health Equality at Drexel (sponsored by both the College of Nursing & Health Professions and the School of Public Health) and is currently pursuing a postgraduate certificate in Gerontology from the University of Washington at Seattle. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina at Columbia (A.S, BSN, MN) and Widener University (D.N.Sc.).
