Frances H. Cornelius PhD, MSN, RN is a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and has a master’s degree in Community Health Nursing. Ms. Cornelius received her doctorate from Drexel University in Educational Leadership Development and Learning Technologies. Her area of research involves student learning, development of clinical decision making skills and clinical competency utilizing handheld computers (PDAs). Other research interests include: faculty development in integration and application of instructional technology for classroom innovations; virtual learning environments for DL and web-enhanced courses; information seeking behaviors among students and professionals in healthcare.

She has taught at the College and University level since 1990 and has an extensive clinical background in Medical Surgical, Psychiatric, Oncology and Community Health Nursing. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Profession and teaches Informatics. For the past 8 years, she has developed and taught courses online in the CNHP’s distance learning program and has served as the faculty mentor in the design, development and delivery of online course material. She has extensive experience in the development and delivery of online course content.

In 1998, Dr. Cornelius received a Cardiovascular Fellowship with the Health Care Forum for the purpose of planning and implementing programs to improve the cardiovascular health of residents in the 11th Street Corridor. In 2003, Dr. Cornelius received a fellowship to the National Library of Medicine in Medical Informatics. Dr. Cornelius has also received a grant from the Philadelphia Foundation for development of Community Arts Theater Troupe (CATT), an innovative grass-roots approach to addressing health and social issues through theatrical performances. In addition, Dr. Cornelius has been the recipient of grants from the Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Dr. Cornelius was also awarded two Drexel Synergy grants: 1) HealthCare Arts Research Project (HARP), which evaluates the effectiveness of an experimental education program in delivering health educational content and 2) Utilization of Handheld Technology in Undergraduate Nursing Program.
