Dr. Christina Calamaro is certified as a family and pediatric nurse practitioner with experience in both pediatric and family primary care. She completed a post doctoral fellowship in 2007 in the Center for Sleep and Respiratory Neurobiology, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, studying the effects of shortened sleep duration on weight gain. Dr. Calamaro received her doctorate in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 2005, with the focus of her dissertation research on physical activity as a predictor of adiposity in children at low and high risk for overweight. Dr. Calamaro is School Age Chair of the Healthy Eating and Activity Together (HEAT) initiative with the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), and is a member of the leadership board for (Pennsylvania Advocates for Nutrition and Activity (PANA). Her
teaching experience includes 5 years of teaching in the family and pediatric nurse practitioner programs at the University of Delaware. In addition,she maintains a clinical practice in a pediatric primary care practice in the Philadelphia area, see children and adolescents of all ages.

This combination of rigorous academic research and practical experience in pediatric primary care gives her a unique and full perspective on issues such as obesity, that impact care of the family and child.

Current research interests include risk factors leading to shortened sleep duration in children and adolescents, pediatric obesity, and pediatric health outcomes in primary care.
