Thanks for coming to the Drexel Doctor of Nursing Practice (DrNP)
website to explore our new program. The Drexel DrNP is an innovative,
perhaps groundbreaking contribution to nursing doctoral education
and our graduates will be able to seek roles in a variety of clinical
practice areas, in nursing education, in healthcare leadership, in
clinical trials management or as a foundation for a postdoctoral research
fellowship. The Drexel DrNP combines much of what a PhD in Nursing
might offer, but with a slightly reduced focus on statistics and research
methodology, and with more emphasis on clinical nursing practice scholarship.
Our clinical research DrNP in Nursing Science is a post-master’s
generalist practice doctorate versus a DrNP in Primary Care or
a DrNP in Acute Care for example. Comparatively, the Drexel DrNP is
more closely aligned to the new Drexel Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)
degree established in our School of Public Health in 2003. Like the
DrPH, the DrNP will similarly be a practice-focused, academic doctorate,
requiring the completion of a clinical dissertation that will help
generate an evidence base for all levels of nursing practice and our
discipline. The
faculty of the Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions
offer our innovative Doctor of Nursing Practice (DrNP) degree for
your consideration and we believe it will offer you more career
options than a DNP degree. Our market feasibility study has indicated
such. More importantly, you won’t have to forego employment,
as our program was designed as a year round part-time program with
classes one day a week. As you see in this picture, Governor Ed
Rendell of Pennsylvania attended our recent Celebration Gala of
our new DrNP Program. So why don’t you consider joining us?
We have a vibrant and enthusiastic nursing faculty who are anxious
to work with all types of prospective doctoral students who have
a strong desire to pursue a nursing doctorate, but who want a program
with a strong clinical focus.
Drexel
is indeed a University on the move! As one of America's most technological
universities, we have just received approval from the Pennsylvania
Department of Education to become the first “first-tier doctoral
university” in more than 20 years to open a new College of
Law in 2006. So after reviewing our extensive website, if you have
any questions whatsoever, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thanks and I wish you well as you consider the best doctoral nursing
program for you.
Sincerely,
H.
Michael Dreher D.N.Sc., RN
