Admission Requirements Change for Non-MSN Applicants!

Prospective Drexel doctoral program applicants: Today 4/15/08 the doctoral nursing faculty voted to eliminate the additional 12 credit hour requirement for students admitted to the DrNP program with a non-nursing Master’s degree. This was done largely since the PA State Board of Nursing no longer requires an MSN to teach in a nursing program. However their new language requires at least one graduate degree in nursing (along with a BSN of course). So someone with a BSN must have either a master’s or doctorate (or both of course) in nursing in order to teach in Pennsylvania. Please keep in mind that some states still require a MSN. I hope this helps you with your decision to apply to the Drexel DrNP program. While the faculty did indeed see value in you completing 12 credits hours at the MSN level, in the end we thought the requirement more of a burden than an advantage.
