- The Drexel DrNP Program announces the FIRST doctoral nursing program (PhD or Practice Doctorate) in the United States to go abroad as a required part of the nursing curriculum. The Drexel doctoral nursing faculty implemented this program on the belief that every doctorally prepared clinical scholar should have more real exposure to global nursing practice issues.
- Every DrNP student spends two weeks in the spring quarter of the second year in London at the Drexel London campus and takes two courses (or at some other future site). The first Class of 2005 and the Class of 2006 will go to London and the Class of 2007 will likely go to Dublin, Ireland.
- The program features local speakers, field trips linked to course content, and an exposure to global nursing practice issues.
- The cost (airfare, accommodations, field trips, insurance, subway pass, etc.) is built into the tuition as an DrNP International Study Fee and paid over 8 quarters.
- Highlights of the first trip April 13-28, 2007 with 11 students and 3 faculty includes such noted speakers as Dr. Donna Dickenson, the winner (and first woman recipient) of the International Spinoza Lens Award in Ethics (the Nobel Prize for Ethics), Dr. Verena Tschudin, the UK-based editor of Nursing Ethics, and Dr. Sue Howard, PND Education Advisor to the Royal College of Nursing, tours of Cambridge and the Nightingale Museum and many other educational and social activities.
