Ebola Virus Disease - 2014

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

2:00 PM-3:30 PM

Join International Area Studies for our monthly International Café. This month will feature Ebola Virus Disease - 2014 with guest speaker Esther Chernak, MD, MPH, FACP, associate research professor, director of the Center for Public Health Readiness and Communication.

The Ebola epidemic has warranted and gained global concern as President Obama and other world leaders attempt to address the increasingly dire situation in West Africa.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 5,800 Ebola cases have been reported, including over 2,800 deaths. Leading health organizations have been constantly revising case projections, which now range from 20,000 cases by November (WHO), to a shocking 1.4 million by January 2015 (CDC). In this timely lecture, Chernak will give an overview of Ebola, and will discuss the public health challenges and consequences regarding the current outbreak in West Africa.

International Café is a monthly forum sponsored by International Area Studies and the College of Arts and Sciences that provides globally themed discussions that are open to the Drexel community.

Refreshments will be provided. Free event. For more information, please contact Jacqueline Rios at jsr62@drexel.edu.
