The Student Counseling Center offers a variety of therapeutic and academic counseling services all free of charge to Drexel University students. An exception is formal psychoeducational and neuropsychological testing, for which there is a fee. Center staff provide professional, confidential assistance in a supportive atmosphere.
Eligibility
The Center City Hahnemann campus SCC serves students whose academic programs are based on the center city campus, i.e., students who attend the College of Nursing and Health Professions, the School of Public Health, and the School of Medicine. If you are a student from a main campus program, please access the website of the Student Counseling Center on the University City campus for information on receiving services.
SERVICES AVAILABLE
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is available to help with a wide range of personal issues, including relationship difficulties, family problems, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, adjustment to university life, and other stress-producing life events. Both short-term and longer-term treatment are available, depending on the needs and goals of the student.
Group Counseling
The Center offers brief psychoeducational and longer-term, open-ended group therapy programs under the guidance of professional counselors. The groups provide students with an opportunity to talk with other students who share similar concerns.
Groups are organized around general topics, such as women's issues and men's issues, and around more specific topics, such as working with chronically ill or dying patients, coming out, single parenthood, and substance abuse.
Workshops
Throughout the year, the Center sponsors workshops on a variety of topics, including study skills, assertiveness training, stress management, sexual health, and issues related to substance abuse. Workshops are offered at various times and at different locations on campus. Click here for the Winter and Spring 2008 workshop schedule.
Academic Counseling and Assessment
The Center also provides academic skills testing and counseling. Counselors are available to provide help with designing individualized time-management systems, improving study skills and test-taking strategies, and reducing test anxiety. Counselors also provide psychological assessments of students who may be experiencing specific academic or cognitive difficulties.
