The Center for Civic Engagement

On behalf of Drexel University’s Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), I welcome you to our website. I hope that you find this an important tool to learn about who we are, what we do, and as a way to gain insight into the great emphasis Drexel University places on civic engagement.

All of us at the CCE are very excited about the many programs and activities that take place through our office and we hope that you take the time to look through the following web pages. To highlight a few of our programs, we have developed a new student leadership program, the Drexel Community Scholars, that will help strengthen and expand our community partnerships and contribute to a positive experience for our students. This year will witness a dramatic expansion on campus of civic education activities through guest speakers, civic education forums, student discussion groups, and student leadership workshops. We are continuing to improve upon the freshman experience course, UNIV 101, as a national model of community based experiential learning. Through UNIV 101, Drexel University leads by example in facilitating civic engagement opportunities for all Drexel students. The CCE is also supporting and promoting community-based experiential learning courses for upper-division students through our faculty course-development grants and faculty seminar. Finally, we will continue to work with student groups and community partners to facilitate co-curricular civic engagement activities that positively contribute to Drexel’s role in the city and the region.

Again, a hearty welcome, and we look forward to hearing from the many people, departments, schools, colleges, and organizations that enhance our collaborations and make our work so enjoyable.

Warm regards,
Dan Dougherty
Director
