Facilities
Department computers are accessible from
residence halls over the campus network, and from off-campus via modem
or an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Departmental and university networks
provide access to the Internet and the Pennsylvania Education Network
(PrepNET). Departmental research computers have a connection to the campus
backbone at 100 Mbps and are also on the vBNS via a campus OCS ATM connection.
The computing resources of the Mathematics Department
include:
- A Resource Center (Korman 245): 7 Dell Dimension Computers
(P4 3.0 GHz, 512 MG RAM) and 1 Dell Optiplex (P4 1.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM)
all running Windows XP Professional with SP2.
- Faculty Center (Korman 207): 1 Dell Optiplex (P4 1.8
GHz, 512 MB RAM) running Windows XP Professional with SP2.
- Computer Server: One Penguin Server (Dual 2.2. GHz
Opteron, 8 GB RAM) running Gentoo Linux.
- File/Print/Mail/Web Server: 2 Penguin Servers (Dual
2.8 GHz Zeon, 1 GB RAM) running Gentoo Linux and connected to 600GB
RAID 5 Disk over a fully switched 10/100 network.
- Room 247 in Korman is equipped with approximately
25 Gateway 1.6 GHz pen tablet PCs for teaching.
