It is possible for student with an interest in Human Nutrition to complete a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences while working
in a laboratory of one of the Human Nutrition faculty. Since
Human Nutrition is a part of the Department of Bioscience and
Biotechnology, the Doctor of Philosophy requirements are those of the
department.
Applicants without an M.S. degree should initially
apply for admission as M.S. degree candidates. The Ph.D. degree requires
a minimum of 90 credits beyond the bachelor’s degree. Depending on the
applicant’s background, a qualifying examination may be required. Candidates
must demonstrate appropriate scientific scholarship and the ability to
conduct independent research representing a significant contribution to
their chosen field. Ph.D. students must pass a candidacy examination and
an oral defense of their dissertations. Applicants interested in the Ph.D.
program should contact potential major professors for an appointment to
discuss research interests.
