Industrial Engineering

According to Jobs Rated Almanac (1999), industrial engineering ranked ahead of all other degreed engineering disciplines, and eighth out of 250 occupations. Manufacturing firms employ nearly 75 percent of industrial engineers.Today, more and more businesses hire industrial engineers in areas like sales and marketing, finance, information systems, and personnel.

Corporations as diverse as Coca-Cola, UPS, Disney, IBM, Nike, Intel, Microsoft, and Motorola, all use industrial engineers to help manage their business. Other industries employing industrial engineers include hospitals, airlines, banks, railroads, and social services.

The industrial engineering program at Drexel also provides an excellent springboard to management positions. Because industrial engineers interact with all functions in an organization, the curriculum is designed to provide them with an understanding of the basics of accounting, finance, human resource management, marketing, economics, and general management. This degree is ideal preparation for positions in line or staff management.

Visit the Drexel Steinbright Career Development Center page for more detailed information on post-graduate opportunities. An additional resource for industrial engineering career information is the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
