Rita LaRue wins the 2013 NACAS On-Campus Hospitality Foodservice Excellence Award

Rita LaRue, Senior Associate Vice President of Drexel Business Services has been awarded the 2013 NACAS On-Campus Hospitality College Foodservice Excellence Award. Award nominees were evaluated on their accomplishments in a broad array of foodservice management initiatives, from culinary innovation and food quality to diner satisfaction, revenue growth and outreach efforts.

During the October 27, 2013 award ceremony, On-Campus Hospitality Managing Editor Gregg Wallis singled out Ms. LaRue for her creative and successful expansion of campus dining options at Drexel University and its impact on the University community. Rita LaRue’s many accomplishments include the revitalization of Drexel’s residential campus with the development of the Northside Dining Terrace, Market 16 & Noodle Bar as well as the university’s newest dining concept, Vegetate. Vegetate is an independent brand developed in conjunction with Sodexo and is part of the Chestnut Square student housing and retail development. Under Rita’s leadership Drexel’s on campus dining increased gross sales from $11,800,000 to $27,000,000 in just five years. Currently, Rita is spearheading Drexel’s 10-Year Retail Master Plan, examining the future of retail and dining at Drexel University –  Live. Dine. Shop.

Drexel Business Services Volunteers for the 17th Annual Holiday Toy Drive

On Wednesday, December 11, 2013, DBS Cares volunteered to participate in the toy wrapping party in support of the 17th Annual Holiday Toy Drive at Drexel University. DBS Cares, a group that provides professional staff and students of Drexel Business Services and the Drexel community, to participate in volunteer opportunities within the Philadelphia community throughout the year. Drexel University donates to over 60 organizations in the surrounding area. Recipient groups include public housing developments, churches and ministries, homeless shelters, youth centers, social service agencies, health centers, town watches, counseling centers and more. The Annual Toy Drive will take place on Thursday, December 19, 2013.

6ABC's "Best of the Class" - Drexel University

On April 18 and 21, WPVI-TV (6-abc) previewed its “Best of the Class” special, filmed at Drexel University, which will air on May 18, 2013. Rita LaRue, Senior Associate Vice President of Drexel Business Services was interviewed. For the past 27 years, 6abc has been honoring the hard work and determination of students from each graduating class across the area.

Two-hundred-fifty high school seniors from Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware gathered for the annual salute to excellence, honoring these students for having the top grades of their class. Congratulations to the Class of 2013!

Drexel Business Services designated as Certified Auxiliary Services Professionals

Congratulations to Rita LaRue, Senior Associate Vice President of Drexel Business Services and Jackie Gemenden, Director of Retail Management, for being amongst the inaugural class of higher education business and auxiliary professionals to be designated as Certified Auxiliary Services Professionals (CASP) by the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS).

Along with meeting eligibility requirements in work and education, each passed a comprehensive exam assessing their knowledge in content areas necessary to perform the functions normally accomplished by a seasoned professional; according to the NACAS higher education work analysis, those content areas are:

  • Management
  • Leadership
  • Marketing, Communications and Business Relations
  • Student Services
  • Operational Areas: Food Services, Bookstores, Card Services, Commercial/Retail, Physical Facilities

NACAS is the largest higher education auxiliary services support organization. The mission of NACAS is to provide professional development and leadership opportunities necessary for its members to be successful as they support higher education through auxiliary/campus services in an ever-changing environment.
