Architectural Engineering
Matthew Morabito

Hometown:  Newtown, PA

Current School Year: Senior

Anticipated year of Graduation: June 2013

Major: Architectural Engineering – Mechanical Systems Concentration

Please describe your study/research interests and why.

My area of study is regarding the mechanical systems of buildings.  These are the systems that heat and cool the building. I love the challenge that HVAC provides the engineer. Whether it is trying to guide ductwork and piping through a building or dealing with constantly changing loads, HVAC design provides all sorts of challenges that I find interesting.

Please describe your co-op experience.  Include where you worked, a brief description of your duties, and what you learned.

Inspired Systems – Millersville, MD  - My main responsibilities were new product research and on site installations. This company challenged me to think outside the box in solving engineering problems.

Loring and Associates – NY, NY – At Loring I worked on calculating heating and cooling loads of buildings in computer software to determine sizing of HVAc units.  I also worked heavily in AutoCAD to design the air and water side distribution of the HVAC systems.

KlingStubbins – Philadelphia, PA – At Kling I worked heavily in MicroStation and Revit to design the HVAC systems in mission critical buildings. I also reviewed shop drawings to ensure the building was being built according to specification while making site visits for visual conformation.

Please describe any extracurricular activities that you participate in.

I am currently the President of the DAC Pack, Drexel’s official spirit section. I help run Midnight Madness as well as game day activities for all Drexel Basketball games. The DAC Pack also coordinates the CAA road trip to Richmond.

I am also the President of Men’s club volleyball where I run practices as well as schedule games and tournaments.

Explain what you would like to do after graduation.

After graduation I hope to work in a job that allows me to get hands on experience in the field. I would like to be either a project manager or owners representative to get a better understanding of the construction side of the business.

Explain what you like about Drexel’s Engineering Program.

The Drexel engineering program really gives the student to explore and find the area they are most interested in.  Classes in the department expose students to many different disciplines with in CAEE department, allowing students to see what our department covers.  Couple these classes with the outstanding co-op program students are able to follow their passion in work and in the classroom. Drexel has outstanding professors that are always available and willing to discuss topics of interest with you. These professors push you to think outside the box and solve problems with new technologies that ensure you will be ready for the real world post-graduation.
