Anticipated year of Graduation: 2015
Major: BS Civil Engineering
Please describe your study/research interests and why.
I am interested in the structural side of civil engineering. My enthusiasm for the infrastructures of skyscrapers, bridges, buildings, tunnels highways and flyovers started since my childhood. I would like to help improve the structural engineering field using the ever-growing technology. Also, I want to enforce the importance of LEED certification to ensure the safety of people and environmental sustainability.
Please describe your co-op experience. Include where you worked, a brief description of your duties, and what you learned.
For my first co-op, I had the opportunity to work for Philadelphia Streets Department- Sanitation Division. My responsibilities were ranging from using AutoCAD to revise existing drawings, creating new drawings to visit construction sites. It was an incredible first coop experience, because I got to experience office work and field work at the same time. In addition, I reviewed and revised proposals, specifications, drawings and cost estimates packages before these were sent out to the clients.
For my second coop, I worked for CH2M Hill as a transportation engineer intern. There I worked closely with senior engineers on the design phase of billion-dollar infrastructure project in Moin, Costa Rica. I collaborated with professional engineers on planning, delegating and coordinating projects on a daily basis. I spearheaded process to maintain up-todate status of the company’s internal SharePoint and Project Wise. I also created excel spreadsheets to document progress on on-going projects, used Gantt chart and pivot table. Sometimes I had to ship project related drawings and specifications booklets nationwide and internationally to the clients.
For my third coop, I will be working with AECOM as a structural Engineer.
Please describe any extracurricular activities that you participate in.
I am a member of a business co-ed fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi Eta Psi Chapter here on Drexel’s campus. In addition, starting from this year I will be serving as a community service chair for American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). I was also involve with Engineers Without Borders last year and served as a fundraising chair for Miramar Water project. I am also a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.
Please explain what you would like to do after graduation.
Traveling has always been a great passion of mine. Unfortunately, it is kind of hard to travel being as a full time student at Drexel since we barely have any breaks. So, after graduation I would like to fulfill my dream by traveling first. As far as job goes, I see myself getting a job at a consulting firm as a structural engineer.
Please explain what you like about Drexel’s Engineering Program.
Drexel offers students a unique opportunity to study half of the year and work for rest of the year. Coming into Drexel, I knew how prestigious Drexel’s engineering program is. After being here for three years, I know Drexel has been preparing me for the real world through the career fairs offered every year and other extracurricular activities.
