“Three days not on the road”
Drexelina is still hanging out near the beach. Today, she moved one mile further but just recently she changed her direction, which is a good sign. We still don’t know why she is not taking off. Maybe, she has heard of evil humongous sharks, plastic bags dressed as jellyfish and invisible longlines hiding around. We just learnt checking her records that she is missing a little part of her back left flipper. Maybe, this is affecting her rearing ability. Or Maybe Drexelina is following Sundae because this is a more matured and “supposedly” more experienced turtle. Sundae has nested for the fourth season this year and Drexelina is only a second time nester. We are confident that now that Drexelina is facing the right direction, she will soon start swimming.

She's actually going further in the wrong direction. What is going on?
Is this normal? I just blogged about this.
What is going on?
I even emailed the race press office but heard nothing.
Any clues?
We think that she is staying around the waters of Gulf of Papagayo, further north from the beach. This is a common destination for leatherback turtles during the internesting period. We know that her last nest was on the 14th of February, so she is done nesting. She should start migrating soon but there was a turtle a couple of years ago that never left the area and only went as far as Panama. Let's hope that's not the case for Drexelina. We've read your blog. It's nice to see that there are other people concerned about Drexelina's lack of orientation...
