Drexel's Dr. Schmidt Published in the American Journal of Psychiatric Rehabilitation
Philadelphia, PA, March 21, 2012 —
Lisa Schmidt, Ph.D., CPRP, Associate Director and Associate Clinical Professor of the Behavioral Health Counseling Department, co-authored the article “Intensive Family Support Services: A Consultative Model of Education and Support.” The article was published by the American Journal of Psychiatric Rehabilitation, and chronicles the development of Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS) in New Jersey.
Before coming to Drexel, Dr. Schmidt participated in the development and evaluation of intensive family support services in Camden County. Dr. Schmidt explains, “The importance of IFSS service lies in the understanding that family members caring for an adult with a serious behavioral health disorder face multiple challenges. These challenges can be effectively addressed by gaining knowledge of mental illness and receiving flexible support.”
The article’s co-author, James Monaghan, is Vice President at Twin Oaks Community Services (formerly Steininger Behavioral Care Services) in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and oversees the delivery of this unique service-delivery approach. It is the authors’ hope that their article will emphasize the success of the IFSS model in New Jersey and promote its implementation nationally.
