Alumni Scholarship Challenge

The Drexel University Alumni Association has announced a challenge to alumni directly benefiting Drexel students!

The Alumni Association is matching all donations, dollar-for-dollar and up to $5,000, made to the Alumni Association Scholarship Program by June 30, 2013!

The Alumni Association provides scholarships each year recognizing legacy students and student leaders. We would like to invite alumni to join us in the challenge of raising $5,000 in donations, ensuring that we can provide at least $10,000 in new scholarship aid to Drexel students next year.

Every gift – no matter what size – will make a difference! Accept the challenge and support Drexel students through the Alumni Association Scholarship Program today.

Making a donation is easy and every gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000, by the Drexel University Alumni Association. Make your gift securely online now by clicking the links above or below. Checks may also be sent to: Drexel University, P.O. Box 8215, Philadelphia, PA 19101-9684. What It Means

We asked some past Alumni Association Scholarship recipients to share how the support of alumni impacted their student experience.

"The Alumni Association Scholarship allowed me to be more flexible and focus more on succeeding in my coursework and extracurricular pursuits. Without the support of the Alumni Association, I know for a fact that I would not have accomplished as much as I did, or enjoy Drexel nearly as much."

In 2005, I transferred to Drexel University from Xavier University ... with only a few personal items and school supplies due to the catastrophic events of Hurricane Katrina. However, through donated monies and networking opportunities with alumni, I was able to strive for academic excellence and achieve many personal accomplishments ... I most certainly can say that these [accomplishments] were very exciting, but my proudest accomplishment was writing a check to the Alumni Fund following graduation. For me, the impact of contributing to the Alumni Fund stretched deeper than just a tax write-off or a 'job well done.' It was my ability to say thank you to the alumni who donated and afforded me the opportunity to complete school with minimal financial barriers, which improved my overall health and wellness."

"The Alumni Association Scholarships I received impacted my student experience in expected and unexpected ways. At a time when tuition costs were rising, they helped to stem the financial burden of a college education. As I prepared to graduate and started to interview for full time positions, they also helped to distinguish me from the other graduating seniors I was competing against. Recruiters were impressed by scholarships given to students on behalf of the Alumni Association, as they valued the opinions and judgments of such a successful group of alumni."

"The Alumni Legacy Scholarship was a significant source of pride for my parents, grandfather and I – all now alumni of Drexel. Financially speaking, it helped me contribute to my college tuition; however, it also had a lasting impact as it presented an opportunity to network with other alumni and was a strong motivator for me to leave my own legacy at Drexel, as my parents and grandfather had done. Carving my own legacy focused heavily on increasing my involvement in student organizations, such as Student Ambassadors, and working with my classmates to highlight our Hospitality Management program through several events my senior year."

"Receiving the Alumni Association Scholarship was absolutely one of the most memorable and humbling experiences during my time at Drexel. First, the financial impact the scholarship made was enormous. Between the scholarship, student loans, and my parent's sacrifices, I was fortunate to have a lot of help dealing with the cost of attending Drexel. I can not imagine not having Drexel in my life – which as costs continue to rise, could have become a real possibility. The assistance the scholarship provided went a LONG way for myself and my family, and we are incredibly grateful. Equally important, however, was the recognition by a group of people I hold in extremely high regard - Dragon Alumni ... [It] was an incredible honor, and truly made me feel like I was a part of a special community. Someday I hope to have the opportunity to do the same for another middle class student looking to attend the greatest university on the planet."
