Jim Dougherty has been a member of the Drexel University Board of Governors since 2001, and was elected Chair of the Board for the 2009-2011 term. He has served on various Board committees, including the Bylaws and Policy Committee, the Student Relations Committee, and the Grants Committee. Jim created the position of Liaison to the Athletics Department and has served in that role since its inception in 2004. In addition, he is the Board Liaison to the LeBow College of Business and has recently established a relationship with the Earle Mack School of Law as it graduated its first class in May 2009. As Chair of the Board, Jim is also a member of the Drexel Board of Trustees.
Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and a Master of Science degree in taxation from Drexel University in 1978 and 1981, respectively. He spent ten years in corporate tax positions before graduating from Delaware Law School, and currently has his own practice, Dougherty Law Offices, and is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Jim has had a long-term commitment to the Boy Scouts of America from his time as an Eagle Scout to his sons' present-day involvement. He is a member of the Union League of Philadelphia and is active in his parish church and in various other civic organizations. Jim and his wife Jacquey have four children.
