Drexel Ranked Sixth by Yahoo!
Drexel jumped 10 spots - from 16th place last year to sixth place this year - in Yahoo! Internet Life's fifth annual "Most Wired Colleges" survey of 1,300 U.S. colleges and universities. Drexel received the highest score of all universities in the "Wireless Access" category.

New Web Portal Initiative Implemented
A University portal initiative will be rolled out in several stages during the fall term. The Initiative will result in increased personal privacy, improved Web reliability as well as greater ease for students, faculty and staff to find and use Web-based information. The initiative is being overseen by Dr. John A. Bielec, vice president for information resources and technology.

The initiative encompasses three distinct projects. The first project, completed in August, is a University ID system that uses an eight-digit number for identification instead of Social Security numbers.

The second project involves implementing Documentum, a Web content management system.

The final part of the initiative involves a preview implementation of Campus Pipeline as the Web portal for Drexel and MCP Hahnemann Universities. Campus Pipeline will offer students, faculty and staff a variety of services integrated into a single sign-on and authentication.

Construction Begins on Business Complex
Construction on the Philip Johnson-designed Leonard Pearlstein Business Learning Center just west of Matheson Hall has begun. I would like to thank Trustee Melba Pearlstein for her gracious generosity in supporting the center, which is named in honor of her late husband. I would also like to thank Trustee George Krall and his wife Lois for their generous gift for the George and Lois Krall Executive Education Center, which will be housed in the Leonard Pearlstein Business Learning Center.
