Drexel and Mantua “Celebrate Health”

Drexel students, staff and faculty joined the Mantua community for the 10th annual “Celebrate Health” fair on May 17, 2008. Over 300 people attended the event, which was held at the West Philadelphia Community Center at 3512 Haverford Avenue.

The event was hosted by the Office of Government and Community Relations and was organized in partnership with 3rd District Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, the Mantua Community Improvement Committee, the Powelton Village Civic Association and local churches. Over 100 volunteers, 60 of which were Drexel students, assisted with the event.

Fair attendees benefited from 40 health information tables presented by Drexel and external organizations, as well as free health screenings for stroke, vision and HIV. Adults and children alike appreciated the festive environment, complete with games, line dancing, music, a free hot meal and a free raffle for prizes donated by area businesses. The celebration was enjoyed by all and was declared the most successful health fair in the 10-year history of the event by both attendees and event staff.
