Philly Spring Clean-up
Over 150 volunteers from the Drexel University community joined Mayor Michael Nutter on April 5, 2008 for the citywide Philly Spring Clean-up. With the help of over 15,000 volunteers from more than 200 community organizations, the Philly Spring Clean-up met and exceeded all of the goals set for the event. In total, 2.56 million pounds of trash was collected and numerous commercial corridors, recreation centers, and Fairmount Park sites were cleaned. Keep America Beautiful, an organization that is responsible for clean-ups across the country, has reported that this event was the largest single-day, citywide clean-up on record in the United States.
Garden Beautification
The OGCR is leading the initiative to sponsor reconstruction and beautification services performed at the Summer Winter Garden located at 3225-33 Race Street as part of Drexel’s overall process of community development which is pivotal towards implementing a strategic initiative in collaboration with the Powelton Village Community Association (PVCA) and the Neighborhood Garden Association (NGA). This sponsorship was made possible with the assistance of Community Revitalization grant of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development received by the OGCR. The OGCR is investing in and sponsoring many of the necessary services to make these improvements, including but not limited to tree and shrub removal, new fencing and lighting, and a remodeled entranceway of the Summer Winter Garden.
