Subteams: Research: Minutes January 11, 2002

After some general discussion we decide that tonight's meeting would be a good time to try and merge the undergraduate groups of each campus.

There was going to be a new member of the team but to represent CoNHP but that person cannot do it and so Michael will be the only representative.

Open forum- when should this be scheduled. The open forum is for issues that student think will need to be addressed but not for deciding the structure of the student gov't. This will be a question and answer period. It is suggested that there should be a separate forum for graduate students. The graduate students should get the proposal sent by email before it is submitted as a final structure.

We begin with the MCPHU undergraduate structure. In the College of Nursing and Health Professionals has nursing, biomedical science radiology technicians, and psychology. It is pointed out that psychology will be part of Drexel's COAS when the two universities merge.

The question of money is raised, how will money be dealt with. It is suggested that in the merged university that there should be a committee that deals only with money for the student governments. We talk about the fact that the financial structure of the two institutions may remain separate. If they merge then the Drexel student allocation committee would allocate money for both groups.

We then move on to discussing the creation of a temporary structure will and university council bringing both groups together. There is a lot of discussion of whether to do this or to focus on just the undergraduate model. There is a very detailed discussion of whether there should be separate student governments or formal connections. The discussion then moves into the issues of representation and what structure would allow for fair representation.

The core of the discussion for the evening was around the model for the undergraduate student government and the issue of fair representation. One model suggested was to have the Hahnemann undergraduates as part of the Drexel USGA. But then the question was how many Senators and what about representation on the steering committee. The other model would be to have something like a Hahnemann's University Council that would be the overarching structure where all units graduate and undergraduate would have representation including the Drexel USGA. The question here would be would it be good to keep graduate and undergraduate together and also maybe USGA would be underrepresented. The meeting ended after a lot of ideas were put on the table but no conclusions were reached.
