Civil Engineer is the Recipient of the Second Anthony J. Drexel Exceptional Achievement Award

Rafael L. Bras, Sc.D., provost, executive vice president and K. Harrison Brown Family Chair at the Georgia Institute of Technology, is the recipient of Drexel University’s 2010 Anthony J. Drexel Exceptional Achievement award. The 2010 award focused on civil engineering.

Dr. Bras was honored for outstanding translational research in hydrology, environmental engineering and civil engineering, including important breakthroughs in soil-vegetation-atmosphere system modeling. In his 35-year career in academics and higher education administration he held positions at MIT and the University of California, Irvine, before joining Georgia Tech.

His previous awards include an honorary laurea from the University of Perugia, Italy; admission into the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Award Hall of Fame; the NASA Public Service Medal; the Macelwane Medal of AGU; a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship; the Athalie Richardson Irvine Clarke Prize; and the Simon W. Freese Environmental Engineering Award.
