DESCRIPTION OF PRE-STUDENT
TEACHING FIELD EXPERIENCE

The Pre-Student Teaching Field Experience is a three hour, ten-week field placement in a carefully selected classroom with a high quality Cooperating Teacher. It is conducted under the general supervision of the Education Field Coordinator.  The Pre-Student Teaching Field Experience involves classroom observation and analyses of best practices, including, teaching lessons and assisting with classroom management.

The Pre-Student Teaching Field Experience serves as the laboratory for planning standards-based curriculum, differentiating instruction through a variety of instructional strategies that meet diverse learners’ needs, learning about classroom management, and using alternative assessments.  The Pre-Student Teaching Field Experience involves collaborative supervision by the Cooperating Teacher and the University Supervisor.

The Pre-Student Teaching is a component of EDUC 320: Professional Studies in Instruction that meets for three hours, one night a week for the term. The instructor of that seminar works collaboratively with the University Supervisor to align the performance outcomes of the seminar with the Pre-Student Teaching objectives.
