- To apply for field placement you must be eligible (3.0
GPA with a B or A in all core education courses to date). The School of Education (SoE) requires that you list your certification area(s) (level
and subject) and provide Praxis dates/scores taken to date. The SoE requires that the Praxis
I tests be completed before applying for a Student Teaching or Graduate Field Experience Placement.
- Candidates seeking placement in Pennsylvania (PA) schools must obtain a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Clearance. *** As of April 1, 2006, All students placed in the state of Pennsylvania will be required to obtain an FBI clearance for those who will be pre-student teaching, student teaching or completing field experience and seminar. Some PA school districts also require a TB check.
- An introductory letter and Resume following the guidelines that are posted in the
Program Forms section. The Introductory Letter requirements are reviewed and the letter drafted as a component of EDUC 320 for undergraduate students and EDUC 520 for graduate students. (Undergraduate students should submit a revised Introductory Letter and Resume when applying for EDUC 410 or 412: Student Teaching.)
- Online students that are not in the Philadelphia area are responsible for providing the contact information of your preferred school district to the SoE's Field Placement office. Do not attempt to set up a field placement on your own. It is the responsibility of the School of Education to make a formal professional placement request on your behalf.
- Per University policy, official correspondence regarding their academic studies must occur via their Drexel University email account.
- Students taking on-campus course work also may request a particular school or
location for your placement. The SoE will make every effort to accommodate a
request, however the SoE makes the final decision if placement in the desired school/school district will be possible. The SoE must take in consideration several variables including proximity of the school to Drexel for students taking on-campus courses during their Pre-Student Teaching, availability of a qualified Cooperating Teacher at the school, etc.
- Field Experience candidates must obtain one letter of recommendation from a faculty member of the School of Education for their first Field Experience conducted through Drexel. Undergraduates must obtain a second letter, which may come from any professor that can attest to their academic ability.
- Undergraduates are reminded that taking additional courses while Student Teaching is NOT permitted without the expressed approval of the SoE's Office of Field Placements. Students seeking an exception should draft a letter of appeal and submit it with their online application.
