Will this scholarship interfere with other financial aid I'm already receiving (or will receive in the future)?
It should not. This scholarship complements other financial aid packages. It was designed to be non-competing. Contact us if you have questions.
When am I going to see the $10,000 in my bank account?
You will never see the money. It is handled by and disbursed directly from the School of Education.
My grades are really bad this quarter. Will this affect my scholarship?
Your progress is checked every quarter. If you do poorly (below a 3.0 GPA), your scholarship is in jeopardy.
Notify us immediately if you are
having trouble
with a course; we may know of resources to help you. Also, it is very important
to communicate with your professors and your advisor.
Whom do I contact with questions about what classes I have to take?
The advisor for undergraduate students is Regina Ruane. The advisor for graduate students with last names starting with the letters A-L is Theresa Gagliardi , and the advisor for graduate students with last names starting with the letters M-Z is Wendy Elliott-Pyle. Call the main number for the School of Education (215) 895-6770 to contact them by telephone.
What if I decide I don't want to teach in Philadelphia?
Teaching in the School District of Philadelphia is a condition of your scholarship. If you decide not to teach in Philadelphia, you will have to repay all scholarship monies received as stated in your Promissory Note form.
Can my teaching requirement be completed before graduation?
You can obtain certification and then complete your studies while teaching, but that only applies if you are a post-graduate student. Otherwise, you must complete your undergraduate degree and then go on to teaching.
I have a Noyce Professional scholarship where I get $10,000 for one year. Can I apply for another Noyce Professional scholarship for a second year (and another $10,000)?
The Noyce Professional scholarship is for one year only. You cannot renew/reapply for the scholarship.
Do I have to be a resident of Philadelphia to teach in Philadelphia?
No--if you live outside the city limits you can still teach in the Philadelphia Public School District.
I'm nervous about taking the PPST. Are there prep courses offered by the School of Education?
No, but the Community College of Philadelphia holds periodic PPST preparation workshops that are open to Drexel School of Education students for a small fee for three courses (covering math, reading and writing). Information about workshops can be obtained by contacting Marcia Epstein, Education Curriculum Coordinator, at 215-751-8568 (e-mail: mepstein@ccp.edu). There are also many good preparation books available, and there are tutoring services on-campus for your mathematics and writing skills.
