Research Keywords:

Computer Architecture, Computer Security, Parallel Processing Systems, Fault Tolerant Systems, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition.

Profile:

Dr. Katsinis has specialized in the areas of parallel computer architectures, microprocessor systems and interfacing, image processing and performance analysis. His research has been supported by NOAA, DARPA, MICOM and NASA and has resulted in several systems used for signal and image processing with applications in oceanography, space, and other areas.

In addition, Dr. Katsinis has been working on the design and performance analysis of fiber-optic-based multicomputer architectures with sustained teraflops performance for the most demanding and difficult to parallelize applications. He has also worked on the development of a fault-tolerant, internetworked system-of-systems architecture with military applications.

Dr. Katsinis has been a member of the Aero-Optics research group, supported by the U.S. Army Strategic Defense Command. His research focused on the study of turbulence at hypersonic speeds, using analytic, simulation and experimental (optical) techniques, and included the development of image processing algorithms for reconstruction of images distorted by turbulence.

Grant and Funded Projects:

Several projects supported by NSF, US ARMY MICOM, DARPA, ONR, NASA, IBM, Motorola, and other companies totaling more than $2,000,000.

Graduate Students: 12 MS Students and 5 Ph.D. students graduated.

Professional Activities:

Program committee member, organizing committee member, and/or session chair of several conferences including the International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Processing Techniques and Applications, the IEEE Workshop on Fault-Tolerant Parallel and Distributed Systems, the International Conference On Parallel Architectures and Compilation Techniques, and the IEEE International Symposium on Network Computing and Applications.

Reviewer for several conferences and journals, including Computer Communications Journal, Computers and Electrical Engineering Journal, IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, and Journal of Systems and Software.

Courses Taught:

Numerous graduate and undergraduate courses in Computer Architecture, Computer design and interfacing, CPU design, Fault Tolerance, Parallel Computer Architectures, Queuing Theory, UNIX, Programming Languages and other selected topics.

Supervised many laboratories in electronic instrumentation, digital logic design, and computer engineering design.

Supervised numerous graduate and senior design projects.
