Sports Business Training Workshop - Fall 2008

Unique Features

Goodwin College serves as an excellent environment for students learning, researching, and practicing in sport management.

Just as Drexel broke new technological ground when it became the first university in the nation to require every student to have access to a personal computer, Goodwin College's Sport Management program stays at the forefront of technological education in the field as sports and recreation become increasingly dependent on technology.

Location

Drexel is a leading urban university in what is known nationally as a "sports town." Philadelphia offers robust sports competition at all levels of play and has hosted numerous major sporting and recreational events, ranging from the XGames to PGA golf tournaments.

  • Sport management students have visited and assisted with local sporting events including the Philadelphia Eagles' Training Camp and the Philadelphia Marathon .
  • As a Division I school, Drexel is an exciting place to pursue a degree in sport management.
  • In 2004, the U.S. News & World Report ranked Drexel first in the nation for athletic gender equity, providing the most opportunities in women's athletics.

Experiential Learning and Co-op

Drexel University has long been known for co-op and experiential learning programs through which students combine periods of full-time, career-related employment with their studies. Co-op employment is required for all sport management students and is central to their educational experience. Recent co-op experiences include positions with the following prestigious organizations:

  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Phillies
  • 76ers
  • Trenton Thunder
  • U.S. Olympic Committee
  • Drexel Recreation Department
  • University of Pennsylvania Recreation Department
  • Philadelphia Sports Clubs.

The small classroom size for the sport management program also allows for more hands-on experiential learning, close relationships with fellow students and professors, and an emphasis on group discussion over lectures.
