Profile: Dr. Chiou incorporates real-world problems into his research and teaching and includes examples of current high technology engineering equipment, computer simulation results, and experimental results. Throughout his career as a university professor, he has taught many different engineering and technology courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. His areas of teaching emphasis include manufacturing, mechatronics, tool design, vibration, automation, and CAD/CAM. In the classroom, his teaching methods emphasize creativity and active hands-on-based learning. Dr. Chiou's experimental expertise has been expanded to the laboratory development and the curriculum improvement. In particular, he has secured many research and education grants from the National Science Foundation, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation, and the industry. He has a well-established technical depth in the area of mechatronics while achieving a recognized breadth in the general area of manufacturing technology.
