Dr. Stephen Mastro is an engineer in the Machinery Research and Silencing Division of NAVSEA Philadelphia (U.S. Navy). His work focuses on advanced sensor and control technologies for condition-based maintenance, damage control, and automation. He joined NAVSEA Philadelphia in 1990, working in the areas of ship silencing and vibration analysis. In 1993, he began work in test and evaluation and in-service engineering for shipboard instrumentation and sensors, and in 1996, joined the Machinery R&D Directorate, focusing on the development, evaluation, and testing of advanced sensor and control technologies. He is the author of 23 papers and four U.S. patents, with others pending. He is an active member of the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), and holds adjunct teaching appointments at Drexel University and Villanova University.
