Environmental Engineering

The Environmental Engineering Graduate Program is a multi-disciplinary program covering many environmental issues and the methodologies engineers can employ to prevent environmental degradation and improve environmental conditions. Students come from a variety of backgrounds including environmental science, environmental epidemiology, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering as well as environmental engineering. The graduate level courses available to Environmental Engineers can be tailored towards the student’s research interests and career objectives, including:

• Solid Waste Systems
• Chemical Kinetics
• Environmental Transport and Kinetics
• Environmental Engineering Unit Operations
• Geographic Information Systems Applications
• Hazardous Waste and Groundwater Treatment
• Making Hard Engineering Decisions

However the choice of courses available to students is not limited to those within the realms of Environmental Engineering, with many students taking classes from Architectural and Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management and Mathematics.

Both Ph.D. and full- and part-time M.S. programs are offered. Full-time M.S. students are required to write a thesis on an approved research topic. Available facilities for graduate students include laboratory and field analytical equipment for air and water monitoring, laboratory space for in-situ analyses which can be adapted to suit the student’s individual needs, and dedicated Environmental Engineering graduate student offices.
