The Americas

The Americas has been one of the principal English-language journals of Latin American history since 1944. We publish articles and reviews in history and ethnohistory about all geographical regions of the Americas and their Iberian background.
Founded by the Academy of American Franciscan History, the journal prides itself on providing a bridge between scholars of all the Americas and on presenting a range of subjects and perspectives.
Articles on the cultural, social, religious, and intellectual history of Latin America and the Borderlands are particularly encouraged, as is research which places these themes in a comparative framework with any region of the world. We take a special interest in the history of the Franciscan presence in the Americas.
The Inter-American Notes section is an important part of The Americas. It includes short reports on archives, archival work, research projects, conferences, scholarly competitions and awards, and cultural news including notices of other journals and publications. Other features include occasional publication of translations of documents that may be of use in classroom teaching.
