Drexel Receives American Heart Association Workplace Innovation Award
First Employer in the Philadelphia Region to Receive This Award
Drexel University is the first employer in the Greater Philadelphia Region to receive the American Heart Association’s (AHA) competitive “Workplace Innovation Award.” This award, which recognizes AHA “Fit-Friendly Worksites” that have achieved all criteria for gold-level recognition and developed and implemented an innovative program in the workplace, was given in recognition of A Healthier U’s nutrition initiatives, including the Selections program and the brand new Dragon Nutrition program for benefits-eligible faculty and professional staff.
In April, the AHA also named Drexel University a Gold-level Fit Friendly Worksite for the fourth year in a row.
“We are extremely honored and excited to be recognized by the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life. initiative as a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite and recipient of the Workplace Innovation Award,” said Executive Director of University Wellness Vic Tringali. “Physical activity and employee wellness are very important priorities here at Drexel, and we encourage all of our employees to participate in the many programs we offer to promote physical, emotional and financial well-being.”
The Healthier U “Selections” program has grown exponentially and continues growing. This initiative helps anyone dining on campus to identify healthier menu options — approximately 150 items at 10 campus dining locations — through the Healthier U website or through the recently launched Selections smartphone app, available for Android or iPhone.
The new Dragon Nutrition program, launched earlier this year, offers benefits-eligible faculty and professional staff the opportunity to receive a series of three free one-on-one nutrition counseling sessions with a Drexel University registered dietician. In addition to the AHA Workplace Innovation Award, Drexel was recently named one of the Healthiest Employers of Greater Philadelphia by the Philadelphia Business Journal (also for the fourth consecutive year), and in fall 2013 received the national WELCOA (Wellness Council of America) Well Workplace Gold Award.
