Graphic Identity Program
Graphic Identity Program: Identity Elements
Drexel University Logo
The elements of the logo consist of a wordmark and dragon icon. The logo will always appear in the Minion and Univers fonts. The logo is not to be replicated using any other fonts.
The logo is to be used on all print and electronic communications and marketing materials; all letterheads, labels, envelopes and other graphic representations of Drexel
Incorrect Logo Usage
The logo must not be rekeyed, redrawn, reproportioned or modified in any form. Individuals should not deviate from the established visual standard by attempting to design their own logos. For assistance in designing secondary departmental logos, please consult the Office of University Relations.
Typography
The Drexel University logo consists of two logotypes. The display-size version of "Drexel" appears in the Minion font. "University" appears in Univers. Publications produced by the Office of University Relations will use the preferred fonts, Minion and Univers. However, departments producing their own newsletters with downloadable templates may use Palatino or Times, and Helvetica or Arial (the fonts readily available that are closely related to Minion and Univers).
For general correspondence, the following fonts that complement Minion and Univers are recommended:
- Body Text: Palatino or Times (serif type), 10-12 points
- Headings: Helvetica Bold or Arial Bold (sans-serif type), 11 points
These are standard fonts found on most computers.
Logo Color Combinations for Print
Ink colors used on University publications have been selected to complement the University's established institutional colors of blue and gold. The colors are Pantone Matching System (PMS) 281 blue, PMS 128 yellow (uncoated stock), and PMS 129 yellow (coated stock). These examples represent how the logo will appear when presented in differing paper and ink situations.
Secondary Symbols
Departmental logos must always appear secondary to the University's logo. For assistance in designing secondary departmental logos, please consult the Office of University Relations.

Logos for Drexel University College of Medicine
College of Medicine Logo for Publications and Advertisements
The College of Medicine has a distinctive logo for use in publications (NOT for the Web) and advertisements that differs from the logo used on stationery and business cards. The College of Medicine logo also differs from that used by the College of Nursing and Health Professions and the School of Public Health, which use the standard Drexel University logo.
The College of Medicine logo includes the Drexel logo without the word "University" written below the box with the Dragon. The name of the College appears on two lines to the right of the Dragon logo: "Drexel University" on the first line and "College of Medicine" directly underneath. A fine rule is below this text to separate the College's name from the tagline, "In the tradition of Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann Medical College." The tagline is included to address the proud histories and traditions of both WMCP and Hahnemann University. The logo must always be used in this configuration. The text is written in either Minion or Universe fonts. Ink colors are PMS 281 blue, PMS 128 yellow (uncoated paper stock) and PMS 129 yellow (coated paper stock).
The College of Medicine logo must be placed on all printed materials issued by or in support of clinical group practices, as well as on all advertisements, posters, brochures, flyers, invitations, syllabi, newsletters, pamphlets and annual reports. The size and placement of the logo is at the digression of the designer. However, for publications also using a Tenet logo, the College of Medicine logo must be proportionate to the Tenet logo. For publications requiring a return address (i.e. newsletters), the address and Drexel logo used on College of Medicine envelopes must be used. This logo is not to be a substitute for the College of Medicine logo.
See examples of the Drexel logo and return address.
In addition to the logo, the aforementioned publications must also include the affiliation statement: "The Drexel University College of Medicine is a not- for-profit subsidiary of Drexel University and is affiliated with Tenet HealthSystem." This statement addresses legal considerations and describes Drexel's relationship with Tenet. The affiliation statement cannot be less than 7 point type, but can use any font that is appropriate to the context of the design. The statement does not have to appear next to the logo, rather its placement is at the discretion of the designer.
If you have any questions about the logo's format, contact Alese Dickson, director of graphic design at 215-895-2140. For questions regarding the use of the logo, contact Philip Terranova, Vice President for University Relations at 215-895-2613.
