Services
Individuals and Couples Counseling
You can meet individually with a professional staff member to
explore your concerns, increase understanding of yourself and others
and learn how to implement solutions to a problem. Couples, in
which each partner is a currently enrolled Drexel student, can
work on relationship problems and learn to improve their communication.
Crisis Counseling
At some point you may find yourself facing a personal crisis.
A breakup in a relationship, academic problems, death of a loved
one, or parental divorce are examples of potential crisis situations.
We can assist you with sorting things out and by suggesting strategies
to ease, to better understand, or to resolve the situation. You
can walk-in to the Counseling Center if you are in crisis anytime
between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday and be seen
immediately. You can contact the Counseling Center any time, day
or night, by calling (215) 895-1415.
Support Groups
Sometimes being a member of a group is the best way to enhance
personal growth and to develop social skills. Being part of a group
offers the opportunity to meet in a supportive environment with
people having similar concerns. Groups offer members the opportunity
to express and work on feelings, to learn from other’s experiences,
to provide others with the opportunity to learn from you, and develop
new skills. Groups are formed in response to students’ needs
and interests. Contact the Counseling Center for more information.
Referrals
Your Counselor may determine that your needs would best be met
by another resource on or off campus. We can provide you with the
information you need and assist you with locating the most appropriate
treatment.
Consultation
At times you may wish to talk to the Counseling Center staff member
to get advice about how to handle roommate conflicts, how to get
someone you care about to get help, or other issues that are causing
you concern. Consultation services are always available to faculty
and staff who wish to discuss a concern about a student.
Workshops
Counseling Center staff members are available to provide workshops
for your class or organization on topics related to psychological/emotional
health. We are willing to present at your location. Some examples
of popular workshops are:
- “How to Manage Stress”
- “What is Counseling?”
- “Understanding Date Rape and How to Prevent It”
- "Building
Decision Making Skills”
- "Feeling Good: Self-Esteem”
- What’s the Difference?:
Substance Use and Substance Abuse”
- “Relationship Issues”
- "Healthy and Unhealthy Eating”
Anyone having a claim or dispute arising out of or relating to the quality of the health or medical care received at a student health clinic or counseling center, or from an athletic trainer or doctor, must attempt to resolve it first through the Drexel Healthcare Mediation Program before filing a claim with a court.
